Dubai Frame has become an icon of the city thanks to its unique photo-frame-shaped structure. Not only is it an impressive landmark from the outside, but it’s also an observation deck that lets you see Dubai from a different perspective. What is the Dubai Frame?
Considered “the bridge between Dubai’s past and future”, the Dubai Frame is a unique attraction worth visiting. It is a monument shaped like a picture frame that was designed by architect Fernando Donis. His project was selected from among 900 others that aimed to create a new landmark for Dubai.
Open since 2018, this structure—built with 2,000 metric tons of steel—is the world’s largest picture frame. At 150 meters, it certainly can’t compare to Dubai’s other skyscrapers, such as the Burj Khalifa, for example, but it is above all its shape that makes it so unique.
Visiting The Frame in Dubai
Although it’s already an impressive landmark from a distance, you can also go inside to visit the observation deck. The purpose of this visit is to connect Old Dubai with modern Dubai by explaining the city’s history up to the present day. This is achieved through two exhibitions: the Past Gallery and the Future Gallery.
Past Gallery
The tour begins in the first exhibition downstairs: the Past Gallery. As its name suggests, this gallery will take you on a journey through time to discover the Dubai of yesteryear. Through historical reenactments and period artifacts, you’ll feel as though you’re visiting a small Arab village. All your senses will be engaged, particularly through traditional music and scents that transport you to a completely different era. It’s a small but very interesting and immersive museum!
Future Gallery
The second exhibition is located at the end of your tour. After the observation deck, you’ll head back down to explore the Future Gallery. As you might expect, this gallery showcases the Dubai of the future! Using virtual reality, 3D, and sound effects, you’ll be able to imagine what Dubai will look like in about fifty years. It’s a city that’s constantly changing—and it’s not about to stop anytime soon! This gallery is the perfect way to wrap up your visit to the Dubai Frame.
No photos or videos are allowed in this exhibition. So take the time to really enjoy it.
Sky Deck
In addition to the exhibits about the city, the main attraction of this landmark is the famous observation deckobservation deck. To reach it, you’ll take an elevator that will take you up to a height of 150 meters in 75 seconds. It’s not as fast as the one at the Burj Khalifa or the Empire State Building in New York, for example, but it gives you time to enjoy the view beneath your feet. Because yes, the floor is made of glass!
When you step out of the elevator, you’ll arrive at the famous observation deck. It’s 100 meters long and features a glass walkway in the center. The bravest visitors can walk across it and look down at what’s below!
What makes this observation deck unique is that it’s located halfway between Old Dubai and modern Dubai. It’s really amazing to be able to see and compare both sides!
Old Dubai
From the north side of the observatory, you can see Old Dubai. Enjoy the views of the neighborhoods Deira, Bur Dubai. You’ll notice that the area consists mainly of small homes and shops that evoke Dubai’s authentic atmosphere: you won’t see any skyscrapers on that side.
Modern Dubai
Then, on the other side to the south, you’ll have a breathtaking view of luxurious, modern Dubai. In the distance, you’ll see Downtown Dubai, notably featuring the skyline dominated by the Burj Khalifa. Even though you’re not very high up, the Dubai Frame is set far enough back to offer an incredible panoramic view.

The Dubai Frame is a very popular attraction: there are often long lines to get in. To avoid this, we recommend booking your tickets in advance. This allows you to enjoy a skip-the-line ticket on the day of your choice.

Where is The Frame located in Dubai?
The Dubai Frame is located at Zabeel Park near the Bur Dubai neighborhood. Although it’s a bit off the beaten path, you can easily get there by taking a taxi.
Alternatively, the nearest subway station is Al Jafiliya on the red line. Allow a good half-hour walk to reach The Frame.
Our Take on the Dubai Frame
Personally, we think this visit is definitely worth it! What we really love is the contrast between the Old and the New. Its nickname as a bridge between the past and the future really comes to life at the top of this frame, and it’s a magnificent sight. From the outside, the structure is also truly impressive.
Also note that compared to other activities available in Dubai, the price is quite reasonable. You won’t spend a whole day there, of course, but it lets you enjoy a different perspective on the city at a fair price.
What to do around the Dubai Frame?
Fountain Show
Right in front of the entrance to the Frame is a small fountain. Like the Dubai Fountain or The Palm Fountain, shows take place throughout the day. It’s not as impressive as the ones mentioned above, but it’s really fun to watch the water jets dance to the beat of the music.
Zabeel Park
As we mentioned, the Dubai Frame is located in Zabeel Park. It is one of the city’s largest parks and is very popular with families on weekends. There are barbecue areas, playgrounds for children… Concerts and festive events are regularly held there.
It’s actually a fairly shaded park with many palm trees. Of course, we don’t recommend staying there too long in the heat of the day, but if you visit early in the morning or late in the day, it’s a very lovely park to explore.
